Pub. 1 2013 Directory
17 second highest number attendees, 20 students, at the Spring West Quad in Portland and highest number of attendees, 22 students, at this year’s Fall West Quad in Denver. To name just a few of our on-going 2013-2014 school year projects, we are working with the Bozeman Youth Shelter, which is a recently founded shelter for underserved youth in Bozeman and the surrounding area. AIAS has committed to run a clothing drive on campus for the duration of one week to collect and deliver clothes, shoes, coats, and other items to the recently opened shelter. The chapter is also passionate about assisting in the construction and fabrication of needed household furnishings. Girl Scouts of America STEM initiative is a collaborative event of AIAS and AIA MT to educate and promote the importance and possibilities within a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) career path to young females. Cheever Material Share is a recycling and material share program in which commonly used architecture tools and materials could be donated, re-used, and shared amongst students to potentially lower the costs of the being in the architecture program and reducing waste of unused goods. Freedom By Design is a community service program, that utilizes the talents of architecture students to radically impact the lives of people in their community through modest design and construction solutions. Vital modifications are made to enhance the homes of low-income and disabled individuals by addressing their struggles with everyday tasks such as bathing, ascending stairs and opening doors. Our priority is improving the safety, comfort and dignity of the home’s occupants. In addition to the named events and programs, AIAS increased the amount of student scholarships ($500.00 each) from 10 to 15. General membership has largely increased in an effort to advocate for the whole student body as opposed to a select few members of the organization. The chapter hopes to continue to develop the positive relationships created in the community, foster a sense of appreciation for the profession of architecture, and advocate for the needs of all architecture students. The MSU AIAS Chapter would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Montana AIA for their continual support and encouragement! w
