P rogram Requirements: Master Planning including LEED appropriate design solutions for Infrastructure, Solar, Geothermal Heating (WSHP), Aquatic Development, Architecture, Construction Administration of the built response and coordination of Structural and Civil Engineering. This first of three cabins proposed was delivered as a view specific, multi-generational theme, three bedroom, two bath, recreation, open kitchen to great room and dining, laundry, pantry, coat and boot, mechanical and storage, two fireplaces, parking – covered area; enclosing space of approximately 1800 square feet. Sustainability Goals: Generally conflated with a modern aesthetic, the goal was to develop a unique, sustainable solution utilizing modern means and methods for a vernacular that could be readily paired to rusticity inspired by Stanley Underwood and Robert Reamer. Design Solutions: Over 100 third party, Montana USGBC certified points, resulting in a one-of-a- kind, LEED Platinum, dwelling; a first in Southwest, Montana and at the time of completion only the third home in the State to receive any certification from the USGBC. Headwaters Camp: Located on a heavily forested parcel deep within the Madison Mountain Range of Montana, a dwelling begins to emerge; building components at various points of con- struction are readily identifiable with most any modern structure. However hidden within cav- ities of wall and roof the dwellings true working assemblies are blended with visual nods that speak of a structure typically associated with our National Parks. Log beams, rafters and re- claimed planking define a texture that has been applied to conventional framing; to the casual observer an authentic structure, however to the informed a slight of hand by the Architect; resulting in a LEED Platinum designation not ordinarily associated with a rustic design.
