16 THE MONTANA ARCHITECT | 2017 | www.aia-mt.org The Palisade Building Bozeman, Montana Bitnar Architects, PC Merit Design Award T he Palisade Building is a new, single-sto- ry building for commercial rental use in the Ferguson Farm development on the rapidly growing west side of Bozeman. Designed with simplicity in mind, the building is 6,500 square feet with ceiling heights of 22’-0” and a footprint of 97’-6” x 77’-9”. The only two materials used on the façade are brick and corrugated metal. The façade is enhanced by a glass storefront system on the east and west with aluminum sun devices, while the north and south façades are solid corrugated metal. The structure is a steel system on a 5’-0” module with metal studs and open steel trusses. The flexible design allows for two, three or four tenants and includes four entrances. The primary design intention for the Palisade Building was to create a simple, minimalistic structure with a single form. The building is visually open to the east and west. Both sides offer handicap access, and the west façade includes a handicap ramp. Because it is a single story building and the surrounding future development allows for two-story buildings,
