15 in-wall insulation to the region. Within a limited budget, simple building elements that address ventilation, rain protection, and sun shading (terraces, parapets, window boxes, etc.) frame the student experience and connection to the surrounding landscape. During the master-planning, design, and construction phases of the project, architects from 100 Fold Studio periodically lived and worked on-site to observe and communicate with students, staff- members, and contractors. The project culminated in summer 2017, as a group of over 70 architects, staff, students, and partners traveled to Cambodia to share in this vision. Two outdoor gathering huts were designed and built with the help of a group of college students participating in a summer design-build program. The huts frame the plaza outside the cafeteria, providing a space for group interaction or individual reflection. Designed to mimic a floating lantern, the gathering huts are a physical representation of the light and hope this campus desires to bring to the nation of Cambodia.
