By selecting renovation over new construction, the design team utilized existing materials and infra- structure to minimize waste and unnecessary envi- ronmental impact. The downtown location prevents further urban sprawl within the community and encourages the use of public transportation. Perhaps most importantly, selecting the McDonald Building for this renovation project breathed new life into an old building, allowing it to serve a new purpose for the next generation of users.
