27 Sustainability Holistic sustainability is intrinsic to the mission of GCH. In accordance with this tenant, the new facility was built to be as energy efficient and healthy as the budget allowed. Thermally broken double stud walls as well as the attic spaces are insulated to 50% beyond code. The buildings are four times tighter than required. Operable triple pane windows offer extensive daylight and ventilation while keeping heating and cooling costs minimal. A 10Kw PV array offsets much of the facility’s electrical usage. Locally sourced and reclaimed wood is used extensively throughout the buildings interiors and exteriors. Native/edible and water wise landscaping surrounds the complex. The farms central location helps support and reinforce the walkable city Missoula is becoming. b
