8 THE MONTANA ARCHITECT | 2019-2020 | www.aia-mt.org MSU School of Architecture Another Winning Entry in the AIA Competition on the Environment (COTE) #1 Haley Teske, a student in Professor Bradford Watson and Jaya Mukhopadhyay’s graduate classes, became the third winner in three years of the AIA/ACSA COTE competition (Competition on the Environment). Selected from over 500 entries, her project was based on the scholarly work undertaken by Professor Watson in Torre Annunziata, Italy. The remarkable discovery of the Villa Oplontis in Torre Annunziata presents the opportunity for the economically depressed community to reap the benefits of tourism but also raises questions about the cultural impact on the community and how economic benefits might be achieved. Shown above, Haley Teske’s project “The Happy Land,” An Antiquarian for Torre Annunziata, illustrates her hybrid design solution in which the dilapidated train station in Torre Annunziata is revitalized to draw visitors into the culture of Tore Annunziata and the Oplontis Project. Many Thanks for a Successful Fund-Raising Campaign: Thanks to the initiative and generosity of Advisory Council mem- ber Larry Hulbert and many, many others, I have the pleasure to announce that the School of Architecture Visiting Scholarship Endowment has become a reality. Larry created a Challenge Grant
